TOO MUCH SUPPORT IS BAD

Couples are often told to be more supportive of each other, but it turns out that too much support can do more harm than good. A University of Iowa study involved 103 husbands and wives who completed surveys five times over the course of their first five years of marriage. Results showed that too much support usually in the form of unwanted advice is a bigger risk factor for marital unhappiness than not giving enough support. "The idea that simply being more supportive is better for your marriage is a myth," says Dr. Erika Lawrence. "If you don't get enough support, you can make up for that with family and friends. But when you receive too much support, there's no way to adjust for that." (National Enquirer)
