Marion man admits sending illegal materials online

A Smyth County, Virginia man caught in a child porn chat room online by an undercover police officer has pleaded guilty to federal charges.

Travis Shane Smith, 38, of Marion, admitted to using the messaging service KIK to distribute sexually explicit materials over the period of May and June last year.

Smith is scheduled to be sentenced in US District Court in Abingdon on Dec. 15.
