DESCRIPTION:What better way to entertain the kids and keep them on their good behavior for a visit from Santa than the annual Jonesborough Christmas Parade. The most unique thing about this parade is the fact that it takes place at night\, because what better way to showcase the floats and parade entries than to decorate with Christmas lights! Traditionally\, over half of the entries are musical as well\, so feel free to sing along with the church choirs\, wave at the passing fire truck decked out in Christmas decorations and look in wonder at the live nativity scene as it passes by. \nFolks of all ages will gather along Boone and Main Streets downtown in anticipation of the arrival of floats\, bands\, classic cars\, dancers and\, of course\, Santa Claus as they make their way downtown. This year’s theme is “A Musical Christmas”. As one of the only nighttime parades in the area\, Jonesborough takes advantage of the beautiful small-town setting in the downtown area as the setting stage for the event. \nTo register\, go to jonesboroughtn.org. Entry deadline is Tuesday\, December 6th. DESCRIPTION:Up & At ‘Em\, Inc. presents the 17th annual Johnson City Turkey Trot. Over the years this race has become an iconic event of the area coined as “The Place To Be Thanksgiving Day.” Although this 5k race is the largest in the Tri Cities area\, it has become more than just a race to all as it is also seen as a homecoming or family tradition to do every year with over 4\,000 of our closest friends and family. \nParticipants of The Johnson City Turkey Trot are invited to bring canned food items or a small toy item to Memorial Park Community Center (510 Bert Street) on the day of packet pickup. Canned food items and toys will be donated to Good Samaritan Minsitries\, Inc “Hope For The Holidays” campaign. Items can be donated in either of the two large Good Samaritan Barrels that will be on location for drop-off. \nPlease note that the course has a small change this year. River’s Way will be hosting the event\, and it is an opportunity for the community to show up and walk alongside the Game Changers.
