Prescribed Burns Now Underway In Wise County, Virginia

If you are traveling along US 23 and US 119 in Wise County, Virginia and see or smell smoke, the United States Forest Service wants you to know its the effects of a controlled burn on about 25 hundred acres along the Virginia, Kentucky border. The prescribed burn is expected to last through Tuesday and will be monitored for several days after the burn. Fire vehicles will also be visible in the area. A prescribed burn helps reduce the buildup of dried leaves and foliage, which poses wildfire threats.
