Wise County Woman Headed To Prison On Aggravated Involuntary Manslaughter Charges

A Wise County, Virginia woman is heading to federal prison for crimes she committed in 2020 involving a wrong-way driver associated traffic fatality on Highway 23. 60 yea rold Laya Maude Belcher, was convicted in June to aggravated involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence. Belcher pleaded guilty to the charges that resulted in the death of the other driver. Belcher was previously convicted of a 2002 DWI in Scott County, Virginia and another in Sullivan County in 2009. Belcher had five years of her sentence suspended and will effectively serve 16 years in prison for her transgressions.
