Minor earthquake reported near TN/NC border

A minor earthquake was reported Sunday morning near the Tennessee-North Carolina state line. The United States Geological Survey says a 1.8 magnitude earthquake happened just East of Bakersville, near Spruce Pine.

Officials say the quake occurred 4.2 kilometers below ground, or around 2.6 miles. Information on regional earthquake happenings can be found at the USGS website.
