Work begins soon to repair drainage routes at old mine site in Wise County, Virginia

The Virginia Department of Energy says work will begin soon on a project along Pinewood Forest Road in Wise County. Officials say an Abandoned Mine Land grant of more than 24 thousand dollars will repair numerous concerns to the old mine.

Surface mining was completed at the site in 1976, and this project aims to resolve issues impacting neighboring homes as a result of the mine. Repairs will focus on erosion control and re-establishing drainage routes for destructive materials, so it is directed away from nearby homes. Work is expected to be complete next month.
