Jones captures Virginia Attorney General win
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Democrat Jay Jones has won Virginia’s election for attorney general despite turmoil late in his campaign over texts he sent in 2022 embracing violence against a fellow lawmaker.
Jones defeated Republican incumbent Attorney General Jason Miyares on Tuesday in a campaign centered on Jones’ criticism of the Trump administration. The battle between Jones and Miyares grew heated after revelations that the Democrat sent texts to a fellow lawmaker suggesting Virginia’s House leader should be assassinated. He apologized for the texts but resisted pleas to withdraw from the race.
