Erwin announces new chief of police

The Erwin Board of Mayor and Aldermen on Monday appointed Tony Buchanan as the town’s new chief of police. Buchanan has served as interim chief since the firing of former chief Regan Tilson. The appointment came after former police chief Regan Tilson was fired in August after he reportedly failed an alcohol test. Then, in September, the town announced that it had discovered that Tilson had reported training that did not occur. Last week, a state agency decertified Tilson and a former captain.
