Four officers including deputy shot in Bluff City standoff honored by Sullivan County Sheriff
The officer wounded during a January standoff in Bluff City has been awarded two honors by Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy.
The sheriff announced Deputy Evan Wade has been given the Purple Heart and the Medal of Valor after being wounded in the Riley Hollow Road incident. He remains in recovery but plans to return to the force.
The officer who pulled Wade out of the line of fire that night, Deputy Cory Hall, was also a Valor recipient. Deputies Cody Ball and Tyler McCready reportedly exchanged gunfire with the suspect to help in the life-saving measures for Deputy Wade and were also honored.
Cassidy also recognized Deputy Shane Amyx who helped a resident escape a house fire on January 20th.
