Greene County keeps constables
A resolution to abolish constables in Greene County failed to get enough support from county commissioners on its second and final reading. After the resolution narrowly passed on first reading last month, it did not get the two-thirds majority needed for final approval during Tuesday night’s Greene County Commission meeting. Commissioners voted 12-9 on the resolution, 14 yes votes were needed to pass. Had the resolution passed, constables would have been abolished once current officeholders reached the end of their terms.
