Man admits to killing father in Haysi, VA

Dickenson County Sheriff Jeremy Fleming said a man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing his father in Haysi on Thursday. 911 dispatchers received a call Thursday just before 10 p.m. from a man “who stated he had just killed his father with a hatchet.” Officers arrived at the home in the 100 block of Pressley Branch Road in Haysi, where they identified the suspect as 44 year old, James David Gilbert. Police discovered 69 year old Craig David Gilbert in the living room area suffering from a severe head injury, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. James Gilbert was transported to the Southwest Virginia regional jail in Haysi and an investigation is underway.
