More disaster aid approved for Elizabethton and SWVA organizations

The U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration announced that $15.8 million in disaster supplemental funding is being distributed nationwide, and Elizabethton and two Southwest Virginia agencies were named recipients. The money comes from the Department of Commerce’s Fiscal Year 2025 Disaster Supplemental fund and aims to support economic recovery in areas affected by disasters such as Hurricane Helene. The City of Elizabethton will receive $1.9 million to be used for sewer infrastructure improvements, $500,000 will support disaster recovery for economies served by the Mount Rogers Planning District Commission and $252,000 will go to the Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission to support Hurricane Helene disaster recovery in 4 SWVA counties. The program makes around $1.5 billion available in federal funding to support economic recovery in areas across the U.S. that received a major disaster declaration in 2023 or 2024.
