New report says former VI campus can be revitalized
A report by Beyond Housing says that the former Virginia Intermont Campus in Bristol, Virginia, is in good enough shape for revitalization. The new report says that most remaining buildings on the Virginia Intermont Campus are in good enough condition for renovation and reuse for purposes such as housing, new businesses, and the arts. Beyond Housing is a housing authority in Bristol, Virginia, that provides housing services and support to residents. The report estimated that Bristol could gain some $40 million in historic tax credits by preserving the buildings for reuse, as compared to $5 million in other tax incentives with new construction on the site. The report encourages the partnership with the City of Bristol and the current property owner, US Magis International, to redevelop the campus. A previous legal battle with the property owners and the city is continuing to uphold property requirements for US Magis to be able to maintain ownership.
