Renovations underway on Duck Island at Warrior’s Path State Park
Renovations are underway now at Warriors’ Path State Park on Duck Island. The park received the Iris Fund, a $15,000 state grant for resource management and habitat restoration and park officials decided to restore Duck Island. The space will feature a 30×40 meadow including plants and botanicals in one designated area for sightseeing and educational purposes. Before restoration, two vacant tennis courts were located on Duck Island, along with damage from Hurricane Helene. The majority of the project should be completed by the summer. Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive plant species on March 28 so that native botanical flowers can be introduced. 30 people have already signed up, and the total goal is for about 60 volunteers. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. at the park and volunteer work will get underway at 9:00 a.m. and last through lunch. Visitors are encouraged to stop by to volunteer.
