Tennessee Health Officials Monitoring Omicron Variant In Shelby County

Like Virginia last week, neighboring Tennessee is now dealing with its first cases of the spinoff, COVID19 Variant, Omicron. Health Officials say in Memphis they expected the variant to appear in the State as it has in more than 20 other states. But thanks to DNA sequencing as part of routine surveillance, Memphis laboratories, were able to identify the DNA signature of the new variant quickly. Officials say the results indicate the variant may already be spreading in the Memphis area and possibly elsewhere in the state.
