TSSAA vote allows high school athletes to receive payment from sponsorships

High school athletes in Tennessee can now profit off of their name, image, and likeness (NIL) following a vote by the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association. The TSSAA legislative council voted on Thursday for the change to take effect immediately.

The TSSAA is the state of Tennessee’s high school sports oversight organization. It followed suit with the NCAA, allowing student athletes to receive payment for their name and image, as long as it’s not related to their performance, and doesn’t include the student wearing their school’s name or logo.
