Two death investigations launched after house fires in NE Tennessee and SW Virginia

Two Mountain Empire residents are dead following house fires that occurred Tuesday night.

One blaze in Smyth County, Virginia is under investigation with assistance from the Virginia State Police. Information from law enforcement said remains were discovered inside the charred home located on St. Clairs Creek Road in Chilhowie.

Another fire occurred in Washington County, Tennessee at a home on Rambling Road in Jonesborough. The identities of both victims have not been released.
