Two separate fatal fires in Southwest Virginia Monday and Tuesday

Two people have been killed in separate fires in Southwest Virginia. The Virginia State Police said a man was killed in a fire Monday in Big Stone Gap. The Big Stone Gap Fire Department responded to East Spring Street South where a house and a woodworking shop were on fire. A body was found inside the woodshop, identified as 57-year-old Jimmy C. Kennedy. Police said the fire does not appear to be suspicious. Authorities are investigating the cause. There was also a fatal fire in Grundy on Tuesday morning. Police and emergency crews responded to that fire around 9:40 a.m. The fire was extinguished and a body was discovered at the residence. T he Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office is investigating. The victim has not been identified pending notification of relatives.
