Two-vehicle crash in Smyth County results in one fatality

One person is dead following a crash in Smyth County. According to Virginia State Police, the crash happened at the intersection of Routes 605 and 600 on Monday morning. A Ford sedan occupied by two people was traveling on route 605, when it was struck by a Dodge pickup truck while crossing the intersection.

The collision caused both vehicles to run off the road. The driver of the Ford was transported to the hospital with minor injuries and charged with failure to yield, and the passenger of the Ford, 59 year old Natalie O’Neal of Chilhowie, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge was uninjured. This crash remains under investigation.
