Unsafe dam conditions result in camping delays at Horse Creek

More than 1,000 tons of sediment is piled-up behind the dam reservoir at the Horse Creek Recreation Area that federal officials say is unsafe.

A statement from Horse Creek operators says they will delay the opening of their campground in Chuckey that is prone for flooding that cuts off emergency help and leaves campers stranded.

The dam and low water ford will be removed and only tent walk-in camping will be permitted.
