VSP charges Appalachia man with first degree murder

Virginia State Police have charged an Appalachia man in a 2023 fatal fire in Wise County. A Wise County grand jury indicted 30 year old Curtis D. Holbrook of Appalachia, Va. on one felony count of first-degree murder and one felony count of arson. On Feb. 10, 2023, Wise County emergency officials responded to a fire  on Callahan Drive in Appalachia.  Once the fire was extinguished, the body of 65 year old Michael D. Woodward was located inside the residence.   Woodward lived at the location. Holbrook is being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority’s Duffield Facility.
