$2 million bond set for 19 year old accused of first degree murder
A $2 million bond was set Tuesday afternoon for 19-year-old Morland Orvil Whitely, in connection with 18-year-old Jaylen Burleson’s death. Whitely is charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after Carter County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting just after 4 a.m. Friday. Whitely’s previous offenses include aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. Nearly a week ago, Whitely was convicted of a DUI, felony evading arrest, and possession of a firearm. The judge set Whitely’s bond at $2 million. Whitely has a preliminary hearing set for June 15.
