3 alleged juvenile victims of recent AI deep fakes file lawsuit against xAI
Three of the alleged victims of a high school student accused of using AI to make explicit photos and videos of multiple classmates using innocent photos of them have sued xAI in federal court, claiming the company is liable for the production of child sex abuse materials. The lawsuit was filed on March 16 in the Northern District of California, where xAI, which is owned by Elon Musk, is headquartered. It seeks monetary damages and an injunction preventing xAI and its Grok chatbot from continuing to provide users tools that allow them to create sexually explicit content from non-explicit photos, like the protocols used to prevent that by other AI companies. Attorneys are seeking class action status for the suit, and asking the court to designate “Jane Does” 1, 2 and 3, three of an estimated 18 or more alleged victims of Christian Zarate, who is accused of videoing and taking photographs of the victims, and then using AI to create “deep fake” pornography of the victims, and posting them online.
