3 amendments on TN midterm ballot all pass by comfortable margins
In Tennessee, the three amendments on the midterm ballot all passed by comfortable margins. Amendment 1 will now allow judges to revoke bail for serious crimes such as second-degree murder, child rape, aggravated rape, acts of terrorism and grave torture. Previously, judges could only deny bail for defendants facing first-degree murder charges. Amendment 2 will permanently prohibit the Tennessee General Assembly from imposing a state-level property tax in the future. This amendment does not affect local property taxes levied by individual cities and counties and Amendment 3 will enshrine a version Marsy’s Law into the state constitution. It will expand and strengthen the rights and protections of crime victims and their families. Tennessee is now the 12th state in the country to adopt the law.
