AAA predicts record travel in TN for Thanksgiving holiday
AAA predicts a record 1.9 million Tennesseans to travel over Thanksgiving, between November 25 and December 1. Nationwide, there are expected to be nearly 82 million travelers. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, more people will be driving than flying, and the THP will deploy extra patrols for the increase in travelers. Off-peak times best to travel are early morning or late evening on Wednesday and Sunday to avoid traffic congestion. The THP reminds drivers to watch for changing conditions like fog, wet leaves or patches of black ice as temperatures are expected to be cooler. It’s also peak deer season, watch closely for wildlife. Troopers will be stationed along the interstates, posted approximately every 20 miles, focusing on stopping unsafe drivers. If you are on the highway and have an accident or other roadside emergency, Tennessee Highway Patrol can be reached by dialing *847.
