New grant will help distribute Starlink Internet service in Buchanan County for telehealth
A grant of up to $125,000 will go toward the distribution of Starlink internet service to eligible unserved and underserved residents with telehealth and telemedicine needs in Buchanan County. The grant will come from the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority Telehealth Fund and go to the Buchanan County Industrial Development Authority. According to the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority, eligible households will receive the equipment necessary for service. The funds will cover the costs and expenses of hardware, wiring, installation, and a two-year subscription for each eligible household. Once the two years are up, individual subscribers will be responsible for paying if they wish to keep the service. Those interested in eligibility or receiving the service can contact the Buchanan County Industrial Development Authority.
