Kingsport Planning Commission discusses data center regulations

The Planning Commission for the City of Kingsport was presented with an idea to amend the city’s zoning code to establish regulations for data centers and cryptocurrency mining centers. The proposed amendment would specify the zones and conditions in which data centers would be allowed. There have been no inquiries from any industries about building a data center in Kingsport, but the planning commission wants to be proactive and plan ahead in case that were to happen in the future. No action has been taken on moving the proposed amendment forward yet, as the Planning Commission is still discussing what would be best for the city in the future.
