JC commissioners to consider raising trash pick up fees
Johnson City commissioners will consider a recommendation Thursday to increase trash pickup fees by 25% beginning next July, followed by small incremental increases the next three years. The recommendation, which would increase inside-the-city monthly fees to $16.25 in fiscal 2026, comes after a rate study to determine what revenues are needed to keep the city’s solid waste fund in the black. Johnson City is the only one of the three Tri Cities that offers full service curbside recycling as part of its services. Outside-the-city fees would go from their current $19 to $23.75 a month. Monthly rates would then increase by 50 cents inside the city and 75 cents outside the city over each of the next three fiscal years. Commercial rates would also increase under the recommendation.
