TDOT: Gap Creek Road Bridge in Carter County to close next week for replacement
The Tennessee Department of Transportation said a bridge on Gap Creek Road in Carter County will close next week as crews construct a permanent replacement bridge. TDOT said starting on January 5 and lasting until summer, the Gap Creek Road Bridge will close to all traffic. The bridge is located between Big Springs Road and John Taylor Road. The project will replace the existing bridge. During Hurricane Helene recovery efforts, TDOT reevaluated the structure and implemented a temporary one-lane traffic pattern to allow limited reopening. Drivers are asked to use State Route 362, Mary Patton Highway, as a detour route. TDOT said signage will be in place to direct drivers around the work zone. The closure is expected to last until summer 2026, TDOT said.
