Report: Halifax resident tried to smuggle $96,000 worth of drugs into SW Virginia prison
A Northern Virginia resident is accused of trying to smuggle more than $96,000 in prison-valued drugs into a detention center in Tazewell County.
A report from the Department of Corrections said Paula Saunders Daniel of Halifax was stopped before entering the Pocahontas State Correctional Center after staff received a tip about possible drug distribution that day.
aniel surrendered a package to investigators after a K9 officer signaled possible drugs inside which was later identified as Buprenorphine. Another supply of that drug and cocaine was found in Daniel’s vehicle.
