Gun control legislation makes its way through VA General Assembly

A series of gun control bills are now making their way through the Virginia General Assembly. Virginia Democrats are advancing several gun control bills including one that would ban the sale, manufacture, purchase, possession or transfer of what the bill defines as assault firearms. It would also criminalize magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Firearms already owned would not be affected if the bill makes it into law. Another bill, also approved by the Senate Courts of Justice Committee, would create a Class 4 misdemeanor for any person who fails to securely store a handgun in a locked hard-sided container out of plain view in an unattended vehicle. These bills have been met with harsh criticism from gun owners. The bills will still need to be passed by the Democrat-led General Assembly and would have to be signed into law by Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger.
