Woman injured and child killed in pedestrian crash in Lee County
A woman was seriously injured and her 22-month-old son killed during a pedestrian crash in Lee County on Thursday. The Virginia State Police said the crash occurred at 8:22 p.m. Thursday on southbound Route 23 at the 25.4-mile marker in the Jasper area. The report says a 22-year-old Big Stone Gap woman entered the road with her 22-month-old son after leaving a nearby home on foot. As they entered the southbound lanes, the mother and child were hit by a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The child died at the scene and the mother was airlifted to the Johnson City Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was not injured. The investigation continues with charges pending.
