Vols QB loses bid to secure another year of NCAA eligibility, now heads for NFL
Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar’s legal bid to secure a sixth year of NCAA eligibility in an effort to play for the Vols in 2026 has been denied. Knox County Chancellor Christopher Heagerty’s ruling was released Friday, ending a temporary restraining order that put the NCAA’s eligibility rules on hold and denying his request for an injunction that would have let him play for Tennessee this season while his lawsuit against the NCAA was pending. Aguilar transferred to Tennessee prior to the 2025 season where he led the Vols to an 8-5 record and also led the SEC in passing yards. He will now attend the NFL Combine in Indianapolis next week ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft in April.
