Director of Historical Trust says valuable Daniel Boone highway marker is missing
A vital, most historic highway marker in Washington County, Tennessee, and one of the most unique in the state, is now missing.
An executive with the Boones Creek Historical Trust says the last sighting of the Daniel Boone indicator on Old Gray Station Road was when it was shipped in for repairs.
The marker recognizes two vital spots-one, a waterfall Boone used to conceal himself from pursuing Indians and second, Boone’s immortal carving in a beech tree marking the killing a bear, or bar as he put it, in 1760.
The trust is seeking donations of more than $2,600 to replace the marker and preserve history. They are also accepting leads to track down the original marker.
