UPDATE: Evacuated Kingsport residents allowed to return home after “suspicious” device investigation

The Kingsport Police Department said it has completed its initial investigation of a suspicious device or substance at a residence on Cooper Street just after midnight Thursday. Evacuated residents in the Lynn Garden community were given the all-clear to return home at approximately 12:30 a.m., more than ten hours after being order to evacute. Reports of a loud boom came in just before 8 p.m. The police department would not confirm or deny that it was related to the investigation.
