911 call: Busch was coughing up blood after falling ill at Chevrolet simulator
A 911 call reveals NASCAR driver Kyle Busch was coughing up blood while lying on a bathroom floor at a Chevrolet facility on Wednesday.
The recording obtained by The California Post said Busch had complained of shortness of breath and being hot while at the motorsport paddock where he was picked up by an ambulance and taken for further evaluation.
After reporting earlier in the day that Busch would not compete in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway due to his hospitalization for a severe illness, the 41-year-old Cup Series champion died on Thursday sending shockwaves throughout NASCAR and the racing world abroad with tributes coming in from fellow drivers and the Formula 1 organization, among others.
Two weeks before his death while competing at the Watkins Glen road course, Busch had requested a NASCAR doctor for assistance after communicating pressure in his head from a sinus cold due to the various changing of degrees at the New York track.
Richard Childress Racing had already announced that O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver Austin Hill would compete in Busch’s No. 8 in Sunday’s feature.
