New firearm industry legislation in VA set to take effect July 1
Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones held a press conference Monday to discuss new firearm industry accountability legislation signed into law this spring. The law creates new standards for gun companies and requires firearm industry members to put safeguards in place to help prevent guns from ending up in the wrong hands. The law includes measures aimed at preventing illegal sales and gun trafficking. Jones emphasized the law is not aimed at responsible firearm dealers who follow the law and take their responsibility seriously. The law also gives the attorney general authority to investigate firearm industry companies if there is reason to believe they are violating the state’s standards. The law takes effect July 1.
