Judicial diversion given to former JCPD officer for misconduct, tampering with evidence

A judge in Washington County, Tennessee has granted a former Johnson City policeman judicial diversion following his guilty pleas in Criminal Court.

TBI investigators said Connor Cooper switched off his body camera and disabled his cruiser’s dash cam during an April 2024 pursuit and instructed a ride-along rookie officer to do the same.

Cooper pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and official misconduct–which could be erased from his permanent record if he completes one year of probation and 40 hours of community service.

Shortly after his resignation, Cooper was reportedly hired as a deputy by the Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff’s Office after a letter of recommendation from Sheriff Keith Sexton to state authorities. The judge noted Cooper must complete 12 weeks of police academy training to enter law enforcement once again.
