Tax free shopping for back-to-school items coming this weekend in TN

Back-to-school shopping ramps up this weekend in Tennessee as the state’s annual back-to-school sales tax holiday returns. The tax-free weekend begins at 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 31, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. Shoppers can buy qualifying clothing, school supplies and computers without paying state or local sales tax. The annual event has been held every year since 2006 and can save shoppers nearly 10% on qualifying purchases. Online purchases qualify as long as they meet the state’s requirements and are made during the tax-free weekend. Virginia’s back-to-school sales tax holiday is scheduled for August 7 – 9.
