Record crest of Ararat River in Mount Airy causes millions in damages
The future of this year’s Mayberry Days event in neighboring Mount Airy, North Carolina is in doubt as the nearby Ararat River reached a record crest of 29 feet while destroying millions of dollars in businesses and public infrastructure.
Six water rescues were conducted as Mount Airy officials declared a State of Emergency when the Piedmont received 5 to 10 inches of rain in just a few hours.
The start of the festival is scheduled for Sept. 21st.
