Judge suspends sentence for Richlands teacher accused of taping student to desk

A former Richlands Elementary School teacher had her two year prison sentence suspended by a Circuit Court judge after she pleaded guilty to taping a 5-year-old special education student to his desk while in the classroom.

Jessica McCoy had three other charges dropped by state prosecutors, and the judge gave McCoy credit for time served. The teacher’s fellow employees reported the child abuse to the Department of Social Services. That led to her indictment by a grand jury in March.

Another teacher arrested in the case, Ginger Short of Raven, is scheduled to appear in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court on September 22nd.
