ETSU announces new name for College of Arts and Sciences

East Tennessee State University announced a new name for its College of Arts and Sciences late last week. The Phil and Martha Bachman College of Arts and Sciences, the university’s largest college, is named after a $15 million gift from the Phil and Martha Bachman Foundation. Officials say that $5 million will be allocated for Phil and Martha Bachman College of Arts and Sciences students, $2.5 million for the College of Business and Technology and another $2.5 million for Clemmer College of Education and Human Development students. ETSU officials say that money will also go toward a $2 million dean’s discretionary endowment and $3 million in capital investment for the new academic building and the ongoing renovation of Brown Hall. Phil and Martha Bachman were lifelong residents of Greeneville, Tennessee, and longtime supporters of local charitable organizations. They also started a foundation to support local education.
