Sheriff’s Office: Mom left four kids home alone for the weekend, driver possessed drugs and weapons

A Sullivan County mother of four who had not been seen by her kids since Friday, according to investigators, was arrested Sunday.

A county report said Thea Sorrell, 33, of Kingsport, was taken into custody when she arrived back at the home and is charged with three counts of child abuse, child endangerment, and cruelty to animals after a dog was found without adequate food or water in a house police said was unsafe and unsanitary.

The man with Sorrell, Matthew Brown, 33, of Elizabethton, was taken into custody for outstanding criminal warrants. Brown also faces 20 other charges after deputies found drugs and stolen weapons in his vehicle and home.
