NCHP: SUV driver from Shady Valley dies after head-on collision

An SUV driver from Johnson County was pronounced dead at the scene of a head-on collision in North Carolina.

A pickup truck was northbound on US 421 in Zionville when it crossed the center line and hit the SUV operated by Carol Geiger, 67, of Shady Valley. The truck driver identified as Henry Bontrager, 64, sustained minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol report said Bontrager was charged with death by vehicle, reckless driving, left of center, and driving without a license. The preliminary investigation says speed or impairment were not factors in the crash.
