TN top prison official to resign
Tennessee’s top prison official is resigning this month following a botched execution attempt that left death row inmate Christa Pike hospitalized on a ventilator. Governor Bill Lee announced Saturday that Correction Commissioner Frank Strada will step down as the state launches an independent review. Pike’s attorneys allege the execution team failed to notice that her veins collapsed during the lethal injection, causing the execution drugs to seep into her tissue instead of her bloodstream. In response, Governor Lee has paused all remaining executions for the year.
