Volunteer Speedway owners announce permanent closure of track property
One of Tennessee’s favorite tracks with five decades of dirt has literally reached the finish line as owners of the Volunteer Speedway announced the permanent closure of the location.
A social media statement from the track said not enough revenue was brought in to use in purchasing the property off I-81 in Bulls Gap.
The track just held its annual Scorcher event last month to memorialize the late Scott Bloomquist—a nine-time dirt series champion from Hawkins County that died in a plane crash two years ago.
Track officials have scheduled the facility’s last event ever for October 22nd. The new owners of the property have different plans for those acres, according to published reports.
