BAE fined for violating air pollution regulations at Holston Army Ammunition Plant
The operator of the Holston Army Ammunition Plant in Kingsport has been fined $15,000 for violating state air pollution regulations. An enforcement order from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation states that BAE Systems failed to properly document equipment inspections and maintenance. State records also revealed missing monitoring data and a failure to disclose certain violations in original compliance reports. While BAE Systems submitted corrected data in April, officials note the state order does not establish whether the violations actually resulted in excess pollution reaching surrounding communities.
