NETN customers of Appalachian Power will see increase on power bills
Appalachian Power customers in Northeast Tennessee will notice a jump in their electricity bills starting this month. Utility officials recently notified residents across Sullivan, Hawkins, and Washington counties of a preliminary 10.4% rate hike. The extra charge will appear on statements as a “rider,” which is a separate line item used to cover the actual costs of fuel used to generate power over the past year. Company spokesperson Karen Wissing emphasized that this adjustment is strictly to cover deferred fuel expenses and generates zero profit for Appalachian Power. State regulators have given the increase preliminary approval, and the utility expects it to remain in place following a final review. Customers facing financial difficulty or trouble paying their bills are encouraged to visit the company’s website to explore available payment options and assistance programs.
