Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office to implement new body cameras
The Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office will be implementing body cameras for deputies after an agreement was reached with the county commonwealth’s attorney’s office. The sheriff’s office announced that the cameras will be implemented in the coming months as officers receive training, equipment is installed, and policies and procedures are put into place. Buchanan County Commonwealth’s Attorney Nikki Stiltner said in a press release that an agreement between her office, the sheriff’s office, and the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors was reached to satisfy Virginia legal requirements for implementing body cameras. Stiltner said that body camera evidence will help to provide clear, objective evidence, strengthen criminal prosecutions, protect officers, and give the public greater confidence in the justice system.
